3 Ways to be Present

I’ve been noticing something extraordinary: there’s a wave of clients seeking spiritual truth. Even folks who have been burned by religion are seeking something outside of themselves. 

It’s very clearly a need that’s pulsating. There’s an Awakening that is demanding our attention now. I just learned from Nate Hagans (The Great Simplification podcast) that if our human collective consciousness goes extinct it is very unlikely that it will ever return again. Yikes and also, okay… what can I do about it? 

If you’re reading this, you’re aware that we’re in a polycrisis (new word for me but holy hell it sums up the situation). There are many systems, agencies, families, beliefs, nations, climates being uprooted all at once. It’s dizzying. 

I think that’s why many (perhaps you too) are feeling pulled towards Presence. 

Our bodies know this is happening. Rest assured, you’re right on track. Martha Beck told us recently, ‘if you’re not feeling it yet, you may soon.’ And I believe her. 

I’ll translate it for those in the back: It’s do or die, bitches! It's time to get honest about being weird and woowoo and spiritual. This Awakening is both biological and energetic/spiritual. It’s both physical and mental. Meaning - it requires a rewiring of your brain AND the ability to hold Presence in your nervous system. To be aware and in acceptance of your body as it is right now in this moment. To feel it, to pleasure it, to accept it. 

I’m going to help you make it easier to digest, I promise. Here’s all we need to know: we’re feeling the collective energy frequency rising and you’re being called to match it. 

I can’t stress this enough. YOUR presence matters. It matters right now at this moment. It matters more than anything. It’s time to really BE with your people. To sit with life’s questions and linger long enough for the answer. Amazingly, this is also the best way to solve the very real problems of financial insecurity, illness, conflict and uncertainty. So, it’s a win-win-win. 

We are being called to ReWild how we make space for presence. 

We are being invited to go inward. To let go and UNLEARN ways of being that don’t work. Things like productivity, patriarchal power structures, extractive bottom line decision making (profit over people + nature), infinite growth mindset (greed) don’t work and those results are in! We have to admit where we got it wrong. We have to learn to grieve that all this striving was in vain. It was a distraction that created more distance and division.

In the meantime, here are 3 things you can do right now - today, this weekend, this week.

  • Digital detox. Try this: No screens during Meals, Bedroom or Bathroom for 7 days. (My beautiful wife shared this borrowed idea from a Neuroscientist, Tj Power @tjpower on IG)

  • Find your favorite tree. Walk in your neighborhood and identify your favorite tree. Sound weird? It’s not. Say hi to it every time you pass by - even if it’s a silent greeting. No trees in your neighborhood? No problem, just expand the area. What’s your favorite tree on your commute to work, a friends house or from a memory. Talk to it just the same. Time is an illusion! 

  • 90 Second Rule. Feel your emotions for 90 seconds. I mean, let them be BIG in your body. Then you can move right along. Dr. Jill Bolt Taylor discovered it only takes us maximum a minute and a half to process the chemical flush of a ‘negative’ emotion (frustration, anger, disappointment, fear) through our nervous system if we allow it to just be energy in motion. You can do anything for 90 seconds. 

We’re going to allow for imperfection, you beautiful being.

If you realize you’re on autopilot scrolling during lunch - brilliant. You just brought yourself back to presence. You’ve got so much love and acceptance in you. Pour it all over yourself.
